Panel discussion on the topic “Investments and the post-war economy of Ukraine. New rules of the game”

On June 1st, a panel discussion was held on the topic “Investments and the post-war economy of Ukraine. New rules of the game”, organised by the Public movement Vilna Natsiya (Free Nation) in cooperation with the "Vilni" republican hub, the Ukrainian-Austrian Association (UAA) and the “For a Free Economy” civil movement.

Details of the event

Experts, the business spectrum of politics and ex-politics discussed a wide range of issues related to the favourable investment climate and the development of the economy after the war. After listening to various views and opinions, the participants found valuable ideas and common ways to improve the state of Ukraine’s economy today.

Important aspects were discussed, such as the international perception of Ukraine from the point of view of investment, reducing investment risks during the conflict, the role of the Ukrainian government in attracting foreign investment, and issues of the rule of law. Some of the participants of the event expressed their opinions on the SWOT analysis of Ukraine, the employment of those who are currently defending our Motherland from the Moscow invaders at the front, and the return of refugees for reconstruction, as well as the risks associated with oligarchic structures and the restoration of the pre-war system.

The event also emphasized the importance of human potential in business and government for launching reforms and developing the free market. The issue of assistance from the world and together with the West for Ukraine and some conditions for the successful implementation of the current “Marshall Plan” was noted. In addition, the meeting of the Ukrainian authorities with the expectations of entrepreneurs and foreign investors was discussed.

Speakers at the event were quite extraordinary personalities, such as Yuriy Yekhanurov – ex-prime minister of Ukraine, ex-minister of defence of Ukraine; Alfred F. Praus — Member of the Board of International Council of Business Associations and Chambers in Ukraine (ICBAC), president of the Ukrainian-Austrian Association; Vilius Šapoka — ex-Minister of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania; Filts Orest — director of the Regional Development Agency of the Lviv Region; Jaroslav Romanchuk — chief economist of the Office of Simple Solutions, founder of the republican hub “Vilni”; Volodymyr Popereshnyuk is a co-founder of the Nova Poshta company; Lev Partskhaladze is the president of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine and Viktor Shemchuk is the former acting Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

Results of the event

In general, the event brought great benefits, encouraging the exchange of ideas and the creation of constructive solutions for developing Ukraine’s investment potential after the war. Based on the results of the discussions, it can be concluded that there is a strong interest and will to attract foreign investments and strengthen the economic position of Ukraine.
