Usurpation of power and the weakening of national unity are steps toward the enemy’s victory!
Ukraine is a European state founded on the principles of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Its parliamentary-presidential system provides for a separation of powers and a system of checks and balances. This foundation ensures both internal unity and external support for our country during wartime.
However, recently, the authorities—particularly the President and his Office—have been demonstrating a systematic usurpation of powers. Parliamentarism is being dismantled, independent institutions are being weakened, and control over the judiciary, legislature, and executive branches is expanding. Under martial law, informal and unconstitutional mechanisms of governance have been established, undermining democracy, eroding trust from international partners, and threatening societal unity. Ukraine’s global reputation is deteriorating, directly affecting military and financial assistance, upon which the lives of our defenders depend.
- Standing for the protection of human rights and freedoms, democracy, and genuine popular sovereignty in Ukraine based on Western values;
- Condemning the decisions of the President and the Verkhovna Rada to dismantle the infrastructure of independent anti-corruption bodies;
- Rejecting government actions that violate freedom of speech and block communication between the authorities and the people, even during wartime;
- Opposing the usurpation of power by the President and his Office over constitutional institutions, as well as over the legislative and judicial branches of government;
- Considering the weakening of unity between Ukrainian society and the authorities, and between society and the Armed Forces, absolutely unacceptable;
- Stating that the actions of the President and his Office damage Ukraine’s reputation and undermine the trust of foreign allies and partners;
- Interpreting the actions of the President and his Office as manifestations of authoritarianism;
- Supporting protest actions taking place throughout Ukraine against draft law No. 12414;
We, the public movement “Free Nation”, demand:
- The cancellation of decisions to dismantle independent anti-corruption bodies;
- Support for the reform and more active functioning of anti-corruption agencies, instead of attempts to take them under political control;
- An end to restrictions on civil rights and freedoms, even within the framework of martial law;
- The creation of an independent body, with the participation of civil society, to oversee the supply of the Armed Forces and state budget expenditures;
- Bringing to justice all members of parliament who voted for draft law No. 12414 for anti-state activity during wartime, and banning their participation in future elections;
- The restoration of genuine platforms for dialogue between the government and civil society;
- We call on the authorities to reverse the decisions and stop actions that undermine the unity of Ukrainian society and the trust of our allies and partners.
